This began as a series of conversations that turned into a very popular blog, with over 21,000 downloads and counting. I’ve been writing and illustrating this zine for over a year, and I am relieved to finally share it with you.

Thank you to every person who told me to keep talking about this project. Thanks to every paid and free subscriber on Substack, where this work was born, who’s been listening to my stories about The Daisy Chain, for the better part of a year.

Special thanks to Rowlf [who is the rock to my roll], Rizzo [who is here for the food], and Mr. Noodle [who is the best example of a good neighbor I know]. I love you very much, and it’s clear you love me back, because you want to spend time around me, even when I’m in the seventh circle of revision.

Wansìshi ta to my elders and ancestors, especially the trees.

Some rights are reserved. This zine will eventually be published and sold by a cooperative press; it will also be audio-recorded and published as a podcast. [Stay tuned.] I’m releasing this zine, chapter by chapter, to make it easier to process. Once I've released every chapter, the full zine will be available as a free download on this website.

I accept donations to help me host this website and print free zines of The Daisy Chain, which I am distributing in my neighborhood, just as I hope you'll do in yours. You can photocopy the hell out of this thing, but do not sell the writing or art, do not alter the writing or art, and do not plagiarize the writing or art.

It took decades of research and practice to write and illustrate this book. Cite me as Dr. GPat Patterson [pronouns: they/them]. Yes, I will to talk to your community group. Yes, I am happy to talk to your students. Yes, I am happy to visit your university or nonprofit. Yes, I am interested in public speaking engagements. Similarly, it took my illustrator decades of education and practice to create the line drawings that accompany my writing. Cite my co-illustrator, Mr. Nikolas Lee. If you would to discuss a commission or feature his art in your studio, reach out at flightlessbirbs@pm.me.
